How long is your commute? And who’s is the longest?
Mine is 42.5 miles 1 way or 85 miles round trip, but only 3 days a week.
Things seen on my commute for your time.

I went from 120 mi/day commuting to my old job to maybe 10-15 miles round trip at my current job.

I live about 4 miles from my work, but I have to take my kids to school across town the wrong way. I don’t know the exact mileage, but it takes me 45 minutes instead of about 8 when I just go directly to work.

Just got a promotion, which means a commute of 75mi/90 mins one way, but probably just twice a week.
![]() 10/15/2018 at 12:53 |

5 miles round trip, 5-10 minutes each way depending on traffic and lights.
![]() 10/15/2018 at 12:54 |

A little less than 9 miles, but 20 minutes there, 30 minutes back.

Im a traveling sales rep, so I don't exactly have a commute per se, and my daily mileage can vary widely - from as little as 80 miles a day to well over 200. Between 700 and 800 a week is typical.
![]() 10/15/2018 at 12:56 |

my commute is about 3 miles.. each way
sometimes i detour through town centre to hit a bazillion poke stops on the way home... then its about 6 miles
but yeah... 15 minute bike ride if im not making any effort
![]() 10/15/2018 at 12:56 |

4 miles; <10 minutes driveway to parking lot.
I wish I could just cycle. But it’s all suburban roads or highways. I’d be killed multiple times every day trying to ride a bike rather than driving.

My “normal” commute is only 25 miles each way. But Friday evening and Monday morning it’s 130 miles each way (Medium distance relationships make you do weird things.) So I guess that’s like an average of 92 miles per day?
![]() 10/15/2018 at 13:03 |

20 miles one way so 40 round trip 5-6 days a week.
![]() 10/15/2018 at 13:05 |

Right now? It’s 269 miles one-way, twice a week. It’s really a bit further than that from my house. The time estimate of four hours is a bald-faced lie. I’ve never made it in four hours and I’m hauling ass.
Before my daughter started driving, I was driving between 50 and 100 miles a day. Now she and her brother can drive to school so I don’t have to go out of my way to drop them off (if I were working in my home office).
![]() 10/15/2018 at 13:08 |

mine is 16 miles each way. It takes 30-60 minutes there and 30-45 to get home.
![]() 10/15/2018 at 13:09 |

So you drive 8 hours twice a week to work? That’s insane even if it is only twice a week.
![]() 10/15/2018 at 13:11 |

It’s usually 4.5 hours to the job site on Sunday evening, then another 5 hours home on Friday afternoon. Life of a consultant.

2.5 miles one way. Takes about five minutes.
![]() 10/15/2018 at 13:14 |

About 9 kilometers/6 miles, takes 20-30 minutes.
Living the dream.

25 miles one way (50 round trip).
At about 22mpg, it’s 2 gallons of fuel to make it to town and back.
![]() 10/15/2018 at 13:21 |

Pretty short in comparison. 12 miles, 15 if I have to stop by our main office before I go to my store. It usually takes 15 minutes to get from my house to the store.

I can’t imagne taking an hour to drive 16 miles. I can not into city life.

I have three possible commutes:
20 miles, 0:50-2:15hrs both ways from my moms house
25 miles, 0:4
0-0:50 hrs both ways from my dad’s house (though I need to catch a toll road for that)
40 miles, 0:45-1:45 hrs both ways from my grandparent’s house (also toll road)
The thing about my grandparent’s house is that I need to take the Mexico City-Toluca highway, the toll one is privately owned, and it has no speed cameras or patrol cars (usually there’s a service truck doing laps making sure everything is OK) so my cruise speed can easily be 120-140km/h. which is way higher than the 80km/h limit suggestion.

8
miles each way, it takes about 12-16 minutes depending on traffic and weather.

My commute is about 4-5 miles each way, from one suburb to the next suburb. That’s why it makes no sense for me to bother buying a “commuter” car. Even when gas was over $4 a gallon, it was cheaper to just buy some more gas, than it was to buy, insure, register, and maintain even the world’s cheapest beater (aka the RallyMetro).
![]() 10/15/2018 at 13:27 |

Ah, three miles sounds fantastic.
When I finish college my commute will drop down to something like that, and my bike will end up being used as it should be: to shout at taxi drivers that cut me off.
![]() 10/15/2018 at 13:29 |

Same here. Even t o ride my scooter to school, I have to go way out of my way to find a route that makes me less likely to get run over.

Door to door about an hour. ~5-10 min drive to train station and parking my car, 45 mins train ride down to the downtown core, 13-15 min walk to the office.
![]() 10/15/2018 at 13:31 |

4 miles each way, about 10-15 minutes depending on lights and school buses. It’s my third shortest commute of my work career.

not even city life, over crowded highway life. I live in a suburb and go to a smaller city outside of Boston. I left the begining and end off, but the worth part is from where it says south weymouth to the ‘3' above braintree. i’d lose my mind (more) if i had to go to boston.
![]() 10/15/2018 at 13:34 |

sure beats the 30 miles a day i had to ride before... split shift about 8 miles away... got to do the round trip twice a day
(still a pretty easy ride tho... this country was made for bikerides... flat as a pancake and well paved bikepaths)
![]() 10/15/2018 at 13:38 |

Mine is 23 ish miles depending on the route, one way. Dropping off the kids puts it at 50 minutes door to door. About 30 is the missus does the pick up/drop off .
Not terrible.
![]() 10/15/2018 at 13:38 |

I’d try to cy cle to my school, its a 30km ride both ways so its not impossible, and traffic means my car averages 20km/h anyway, so I wouldn’t be slowed down significantly. But the issue is that I need to take a highway and its a 230m elevation hike.
![]() 10/15/2018 at 13:52 |

I work from wherever I want...but I never actually want to be home, so I typically drive 15-20 minutes, then drive some more during the day to switch locations.
![]() 10/15/2018 at 13:53 |

4.7 miles. Average about 47 minutes to work. 22 minutes home. 3 school zones...
![]() 10/15/2018 at 13:57 |

About 9 miles. It takes about 30 minutes each way by car, unless I stay late enough that traffic dies down, in which case it takes under 15 to get home.
If I take the bus, it’s more like 35 in and 45-50 home (the one transfer I have to make doesn’t line up as well coming home).
![]() 10/15/2018 at 14:02 |

Roughly 4 miles each way, I go early so the morning drive is under 10 minutes, the afternoon drive can be hell and hit 20 minutes - combination of sketchy traffic controls and timid slow distracted drivers.
Those times would be 200% higher if I used a bus, there’s no real foot route as an arterial road has no sidewalks, and cycling would be Russian roulette (not to mention being unpleasant in the winter), so as long as I am paying for insurance anyway and fuel is a small expense, driving is the way.

I think you win! That’s a ridiculous trip to make twice a week

oh I get that with the distance relationships, right now I’m the closest for the year at 475 miles away and then come summer I’ll be 900 miles away (both of those are 1 way)
![]() 10/15/2018 at 14:18 |

2.3 miles each way. Two turns and I hit the driveway at the office. My old commute had me putting on 15K/yr, but in the last 2.5 years I’ve put all of 13K on my car.
I guess that by winning I lose this contest...

My commute is at least 55 miles one way.
I end up driving at least 55 x 2 every day and I have been working a certain project with some weeks being 6 or 7 days . 10-12 hours a day in refinery as needed and 6-7 days. Management as well essential personnel (ERT team ).
The least I drive a week is 110 x 5 = 550 miles. I put 32k miles on P assat TDi in 1 year. I put 25k miles on my 7 series in 1 year as well.
here’s the best part:
My commute is 99.9% devoid of traffic / obstructions and since I commute fairly early and late at night .. It’s also fastest
Typically takes:
58 minutes in morning
1 hr in evening.
Fastest: I drove my AMG at 4 AM = 38 minutes.
Slowest = Accident on the way = 2,5 hours.
Most efficient: Passat = 62.1 MPG (Dieselgate)
Least Efficie nt: Chevy SS Sedan: 14 mpg, LOL.

that’s a long commute but judging by car selection it pays pretty well haha. If you like what you do then it’s worth it!

27 ish miles each way. Can take as little as 30 minutes or as much as an hour and a half depending on how many idiots crash their cars. One time it took seven hours and fifteen minutes because we got about 2" of snow.
![]() 10/15/2018 at 16:13 |

Depends on the day and whether I go straight home or take the scenic route.
Straight shot is 20-30 mins. Scenic route can take me 3 hours........
![]() 10/15/2018 at 16:35 |

2.7 miles each way. I can take the subway or drive there in downtown traffic. Each method gets me there in about 30 minutes.

I’ve consulted your commute, and determined it was bigly

6 miles one way. 15 minutes.
![]() 10/15/2018 at 20:19 |

Same here l, except for me it’s not much the streets and sidewalks (which are largely plentiful, there’s even a former railroad track converted to a walking/bike path which could get me mostly to/from work but is out-of-the-way too much to make it worthwhile) as it is the significant
hills, and the fact that I sweat a LOT and my workplace doesn’t have a shower. What’s really dumb is that - technically - the biggest obstacle is a sizeable valley, and my workplace is on the other side of it. If it weren’t for the houses and trees, I could skip the biggest obstacle and the rest of the ride would be largely long shallow grades.
![]() 10/15/2018 at 20:39 |

Yea I figured that out from your initial reply. At first I though you meant you worked from home or something 3 days a week and twice a week you had to be in the office and made that commute there and back.

Mines about 8 miles each way. Takes about 15 minutes because the speed limits are 35 or 40. Rarely any traffic.
Part of the reason I took the job I took in June was to get away from a commute that wasn’t really terribly long (20 miles in 45-50 minutes with rush hour traffic) but was super stressful with several merges where people regularly wrecked trying to pass on the shoulder.

My weekly commute totals 600 miles. Home from school then back. ZJ’s currently averaging about 18 mpg at 70mph up and down some steep grades through the Rockies foothills.

I’m gonna one-up him. Been doing this one almost every Friday night and then back Sunday (or Monday) night for the last eight weeks.
And yeah, I don’t know if I’ve ever managed less than 6 hours. You just can’t do it all in one go. The ZJ will do it on a tank, but gas is significantly cheaper in the middle of the route than either end, but there’s a big chunk of nothing in the middle (two signed 100-mile chunks of no services) so stops sorta need to happen. But this session of school is over this week so that’ll be the end of it , until this time next year at least.

I recently traded a 0.4-mile walking commute for a 3-mile walk/bus/train commute. Can’t say I’m thrilled about the extra time spent en route, but it’s a healthy salary bump, so...
